Ice Fishing

Turtle Mountain has some great fishing holes which have produced master angler sized fish for many years. Stocked waters at Bower Lake and William Lake are popular for brown trout, rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. Adam Lake is good for pike.

Geocaching in the Turtle Mountains

Geocaching is a high tech version of treasure hunting that is gaining popularity around the world. There are literally millions of caches (hidden “treasures”) just waiting to be found. This is an “all ages and ability” appropriate adventure game!

Murals

Over 20 professionally painted murals narrate the story of Boissevain’s history in larger than life murals. The murals depict themes as diverse as the one room schoolhouse, the old sawmill in the Turtle Mountain, a pioneer kitchen, Saturday night in Boissevain, to the largest outdoor mural located on the side of a grain elevator in downtown Boissevain.

Guided mural and garden tours are available for small and large groups. For tour times stop by the Boissevain Visitor Centre (located next to Tommy Turtle).

Museums

• Irvin Goodon International Wildlife Museum
  The Irvin Goodon International Wildlife museum is the winner of the 2001 Manitoba Tourism Innovation Award. The goal of the museum is to build a bridge of understanding to people of all backgrounds about the wonders of nature. It contains over 300 animal exhibits, with each scene detailing the animals in their natural habitats to reveal their behaviours. Guided tours of the museum are available.
• Moncur Gallery - Peoples of the Plains
  While in Boissevain, you can glance further back into the area’s history at the Moncur Gallery. Established through the collection of ancient artifacts by William Moncur, an avid local amateur archeologist, the gallery specializes in the history of the Aboriginal people who first came to the area 11,000 years ago. Come and look at the more than one thousand artifacts, including ceremonial items, food preparation items, and projectile points, from the time when the first people of the region lived among the Turtle Mountains.
• Beckoning Hills Museum
  The Beckoning Hills Museum houses a collection of artifacts from Boissevain and area, ranging from old uniforms and fashions, old piano, old kitchen appliances, tools, school items, photo displays, and even a three room home. Parks

When touring the town’s many attractions, a stop at Boissevain Arts Park is an absolute must. Located in the core of the community you will discover an oasis of colour and beauty which will lure you in to where flower lined brick paths and perennial gardens surround a gazebo, offering a quiet peaceful moment amongst blossoms and greenery.

Tommy the Turtle

Tommy the Turtle, Boissevain’s 28 foot tall, 10,000 lb statue stands proud watching over Boissevain. The turtle was erected in 1974, a symbolic icon for the community and the connection to the Turtle Mountains. Tommy is located right beside the Canadian Wilderness Inn.

Birdwatching at Whitewater Lake

Bird watchers can explore the detailed nature and wildlife of Whitewater Lake. The lake’s shallowness and large size (22,000 acres on average) make the region ideal grounds for the nesting and staging of more than 250 species of birds—birdwatching in Manitoba at its best! Whitewater Lake is located 15 minutes west of Boissevain.
